The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and IFPRI warmly invite you to attend the China Agricultural Sector Development Report 2023 (CASDR) and IFPRI 2023 Global Food Policy Report (GFPR) launch event on May 21 in Beijing, China. This event will feature keynote speakers as well as presentations on the overview of the GFPR’s and CASDR’s findings.

In 2022, China implemented a series of strategic initiatives to promote stable economic operation, and quality development. However, it should also be recognized that, in the context of the overall situation of the great rejuvenation strategy of the Chinese nation and the unprecedented changes in the world, the problem of unbalanced and inadequate development in China is still prominent, and the most difficult and onerous task is still in the countryside. It is necessary to firmly strengthen the position of agriculture, rural areas and farmers as the foundation of the economy and accelerate the construction of a strong agricultural country with strong supply security, strong scientific and technological equipment, strong operation system, strong industrial resilience and strong competitive ability. The launch event will discuss the new situation and new issues facing the development of China's agricultural industry, and how to make rational use of policies to build a solid foundation for stable and safe supply of food and important agricultural products on all fronts. We sincerely invite you to join us at this conference to focus on agri-food policies in China and around the world.

The China Agricultural Sector Development Report 2023 (CASDR) is one of the series of reports by CAAS and the Chinese Institute of Agricultural Development Strategies. Based on statistical data and the China Agricultural Sector Model (CASM), the CASDR 2023 focuses on the construction law and supply path of an agricultural powerhouses, discusses in depth the competitiveness of China's livestock industry, the new round of action to increase grain production capacity by 50 million tons, the reduction of the whole industrial chain and other hot issues. The report also provides the projections of 18 agricultural sub-sectors including cereals, oilseeds, livestock products, and aquatic products.

The 2023 Global Food Policy Report draws on a wealth of evidence built over the years by IFPRI and colleagues on policies and programming that reduce hunger and poverty and promote sustainable development and women’s empowerment, including during crises. The thematic chapters of the report look at critical tools and approaches for better crisis response, by identifying the most promising options and integrating them into a more permanent response to food crises to reduce the short- and long-term impacts of shocks to food systems. The regional section considers how crises have affected six major world regions in recent years, and how these developments signal new challenges and opportunities.
