The Launch of IFPRI's Global Food Policy Report: Reaping the benefits and facing the challenges of globalization in Egypt
Cairo, Egypt
Co-Organized by IFPRI and the Economics Department of The American University in Cairo
August 28, 2018 - 02:00 to 4:00 pm EET
Oriental Hall, AUC Tahrir Campus
IFPRI’s 2018 Global Food Policy Report reviews the major food policy issues, developments, and decisions of 2017, and highlights challenges and opportunities for 2018 at the global and country levels. The specific focus of this year’s report is on the opportunities and challenges of globalization. While globalization has brought significant benefits in terms of poverty reduction and improvements in food security to many countries, globalization has also had its negative impacts.
The 2018 Global Food Policy Report examines the impacts of global integration - including the movements of goods, investment, people and knowledge - and the challenges of current anti-globalization pressures. Building on the global and regional evidence from the Global Food Policy Report presented by IFPRI’s Director General, Dr. Shenggen Fan, the seminar will focus on the economic and social implications of globalization on Egypt and discuss a way forward for Egypt to reap the benefits and address the challenges posed by globalization.
